Michael Dales Partnership

Michael Dales Partnership is an award-winning architectural practice with extensive experience in works to ecclesiastical, listed and other historic buildings as well as private residential dwellings. We work on a wide range of projects at various scales and pride ourselves on a rigour and attention to detail in all the work that we do, a process which often reflects the historical and cultural importance of the buildings that we work with. The practice has a philosophy of ensuring that each project is the responsibility of one of the Directors personally, whilst the others have a working knowledge of the work being carried out, allowing for a continuity that is vital to the success of each project. As members of The Green Register, we are also committed to the promotion of sustainable building practices.

The practice was established in May 2000, having evolved from John Manning Partnership which had been practising since 1975. The directors of the practice are R.I.B.A. Chartered Architects, Michael Dales and Matthew Stevens, and Architectural Designer Simon Day. Michael had previously been a partner of John Manning Partnership since 1987, whilst Matthew joined the practice in 1997 and Simon in 2013. Both Michael and Matthew are members of The Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association (E.A.S.A.) and both are on the Approved List of Architects for the Diocese of St. Albans. Michael is also on the Approved Lists for the Peterborough and Oxford Diocese. Matthew is accredited in building conservation by AABC. Together, they are currently appointed as Inspecting Architects to over 120 churches across these Diocese.

We offer an expert service in building design and contract administration. Our wide range of IT facilities and knowledge lend support to our drawing, technical and administrative services and ensure that we are able to bring innovative solutions to the often complex process of making a building. Our extensive experience in heritage situations also means that we bring a character and integrity to even the smallest projects that we work on.

The practice were the recipients of The 2013 President's Award, for the new meeting room and facilities at St. Mary's Church, Hertingfordbury. The Presidents’ Award is awarded on behalf of the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association President and the National Churches Trust’s Joint Presidents, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York. The award is for the year’s best project of new church building and new design in church re-ordering, alterations or extensions across all Christian denominations throughout the UK.
